The Emergency Department (ED) Pharmacist is a decentralized clinical role responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care directly within the emergency department. Working alongside the ED care team, the pharmacist ensures safe, effective, and timely medication use in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include evaluating, verifying, and processing medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness; providing real-time clinical decision support on dosing, drug interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic alternatives; and participating in trauma, rapid response, and code blue teams. The ED Pharmacist also monitors patients for therapeutic effectiveness and adverse drug reactions, while ensuring the availability and appropriate management of emergency medications and antidotes.
The Lead Pharmacist is a 3rdshift role responsible for pharmacy operations during overnight hours. This role is responsible to ensure the pharmacy team effectively prepares, dispenses, and monitors medications used throughout the facility. The pharmacist is expected to sustain an environment for the professional safe, rational, effective, and efficient use of medications prescribed to patients of all age groups. The Lead Pharmacists are responsible for the direct supervision of technical support personnel through the overnight hours in the absence of direct Pharmacy Leadership. All job duties shall be performed in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws, applicable regulatory agency standards, professional practice standards, and policies and procedures of the health system/pharmacy department.
Education Requirements: PharmD or BS Pharmacy from College of Pharmacy accredited by American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP)
Experience Requirements: Five years of professionally responsible pharmacist experience required for Bachelors Degree holders.One year of recent inpatient hospital experience as staff pharmacist or pharmacy intern in a general medical/surgical hospital preferred for PharmD candidates.
Certification Requirements:
License Requirements: State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Registered Pharmacist Licensure
Other Requirements: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, data entry skills, analytical and basic math skills required.
