Summary The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an Advanced Practice Nurse// whose sphere of clinical practice influences patient care outcomes// nursing practices across acute and critical care services// and the development of organizational systems that support nursing practice and patient care standards. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing science required to influence nursing practice. Possesses clinical expertise based on completion of advanced nursing education that encompasses in-depth knowledge of theory-based clinical nursing and research/evidence-based nursing practice. Focuses on providing system-wide clinical expertise// developing innovative evidence-based procedures// policies and programs that improve quality of nursing care delivery and resource management for acute or critical care services. Provides collaborative/consultative services to promote outcome focused professional nursing practice that meets nationally accepted clinical practice guidelines and standards for quality// safety// service// and financial goals.
Education: Masters Degree in Nursing from a program that is nationally accredited and prepares the graduate as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is required.
Experience: Demonstrated expertise in the practice of nursing validated by five years of clinical practice in area of specialty or three years experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.
License: Current RN Florida Licensure or eligible for RN Licensure in the State of Florida. Certification in specialty required within one year of hire. BLS is required. As appropriate to clinical specialty area: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS required within one year of hire.
Requires knowledge of outcomes management and demonstrated ability practicing outcomes management with a complex patient population.
Requires ability to communicate, collaborate and consult effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Requires knowledge of current research methods.
Requires ability to model excellence in advanced clinical practice.
Must demonstrate effective leadership skills and serve as a change agent, including the ability to mentor all members of the multi- disciplinary team.
Requires knowledge of systems and the change process.
