The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Coding Specialist to join our Medical Coding team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates located in the state of Florida, offering the flexibility of working from home while contributing to a high-performing coding team.
What You'll Do
As a Lead Coding Specialist, you will:
- Lead and mentor fellow coding staff, providing guidance on coding practices, payer guidelines, and regulatory compliance
- Accurately code complex inpatient, outpatient, or physician/LPG records in accordance with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines
- Review and audit medical documentation to ensure complete and compliant code assignment
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to resolve documentation deficiencies and support CDI initiatives
- Monitor coding quality and productivity metrics, identifying opportunities for process improvement
- Stay current with coding guidelines, regulatory updates, and payer-specific requirements
- Support department leadership with training, education, and special projects as needed
What We're Looking For
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 35 years of coding experience in a healthcare setting, with demonstrated expertise in physician/LPG or facility coding
- Prior lead or senior coding experience preferred
Certifications:
- A coding certification is required, such as the CPC or CCS.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems
- Familiarity with Epic or other EMR/EHR platforms
- High attention to detail with a commitment to coding accuracy and compliance
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize and manage workload in a fast-paced environment
