Specializes in surveillance within the Infection Prevention and Control Program. Responsibilities will entail collating, validating, managing and analyzing data across multiple acute care sites and the post-acute continuum. Comprehensive methods will be used to measure and report outcomes through the ongoing surveillance of data, identification of healthcare-associated infections promptly, and advanced data and analytics to support the infection prevention and clinical teams in achieving improved health outcomes. Additionally, the position is responsible for synthesizing and interpreting clinical and administrative data, evaluating trends and statistical significance, developing expertise and ownership of specific measure definitions and datasets, and utilizing computer skills to develop and maintain complex reporting systems. Provide oversight and guidance, working collaboratively with the Data Analyst and others as directed.
Education: Bachelors degree required. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing BSN or must have B.S or M.S in a related health care field such as Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology/Public Health.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years direct experience in infection prevention in a hospital facility. Prior to this, must have had at least three (3) years of staff nursing experience or three (3) years previous experience in the medical professional field appropriate to his/her education.
Certification: Must have attended a recognized training course (CDC/APIC) in Infection Prevention/Hospital Epidemiology or must have and maintain current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
License: RN licensure by the Florida State Board of Nursing, or professional license or certification as appropriate for his/her educational background preferred.
Other: Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills, and computer and statistical skills necessary for data analysis. Self-directed, motivated and flexible. Demonstrates organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Understands basic surveillance and epidemiological data. Will attend State, Regional or National Infection Prevention conferences as System resources permit.
Earns a minimum of 8 CEUs that will enhance their role as an Infection Preventionist during initial orientation and then annually. CEUs used for other IC certifications or renewing licenses that are required for IP position can also be applied to the annually required CEUs, as long as they enhance their role as an Infection Preventionist.
