Southwest Florida is characterized by a vibrant diversity of racial, ethnic, economic, and linguistic communities. While local governments and institutions strive to serve all residents, those with greater resources often have better access to information, services, and opportunities for involvement in decision-making.
The Neighborhood Liaison Program was created to enhance engagement with historically underrepresented communities and to ensure equitable access to health and wellness resources. Neighborhood Liaisons are trusted community leaders who represent a diverse range of groups, including immigrant and refugee populations, communities of color, seniors, youth, and individuals with disabilities.
The liaisons possess a deep understanding of their communities unique needs and maintain strong relationships with local residents. They effectively communicate these needs to Lee Health, assisting neighbors in navigating and connecting to appropriate healthcare resources. Liaisons serve as a vital link between the community and service providers, generating valuable insights into community health priorities and supporting initiatives that improve overall neighborhood well-being.
