All of the blood donated at our Blood Centers stays right here in Southwest Florida. That means, together, we can save lives, make an impact, and help the people you care about the most.

The Blood Center Nurse is responsible for drawing blood and platelets from volunteer blood donors. Duties include interacting with prospective donors, providing information about blood donations, screening donors by conducting mini-physical and a medical history interview, drawing blood according to specific procedures, administering post-donation care, and assisting donors who may experience reactions during or following their donation. The Blood Center Nurse must complete detailed documents and records pertaining to the donation. Performs therapeutic apheresis assessments. Performs donor registration and audit with the blood center computer. Other duties include preparing work areas and restocking supplies. Clerical duties include phone reception, operation of office equipment such as fax machines, copy machines, and printers, in additional to basic computer skills in the Blood Bank computer system.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing for practical or registered nurse required.

Experience: Recent experience working in a hospital environment, blood donation center or dialysis center. Experience in apheresis or dialysis procedures preferred.

Certification: 30 hour IV course required for LPN nurses.

License: Current LPN or RN license in the State of Florida.

Other: Provide on call coverage evenings, nights, and weekends. Good communication and interpersonal skills required. Excellent customer service skills, ability to multi-task, problem solve and work independently. Basic knowledge of computer data entry and retrieval.
