Summary
The Triage RN serves as the first point of clinical contact for patients seeking care, providing expert assessment, education, and guidance over the telephone. Using evidence-based clinical decision tools and the nursing process, the RN conducts thorough assessments to determine the urgency and nature of each patients condition, ensuring timely and appropriate disposition to the most suitable level of care. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills to deliver safe, patient-centered care and promote positive outcomes. In addition to triage, the RN provides self-care education, supports coordination of care, and fosters a compassionate and reassuring patient experience.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience required.
Relevant experience may include emergency medicine, medical-surgical, critical care, urgent care, ambulatory care, case management, or outpatient clinic settings.
Telephone triage or telehealth nursing experience (formal or informal) strongly preferred.
Licensure:
Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida required.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.
Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification (RN-BC) or related specialty certification preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.
Strong listening, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs in a dynamic environment.
Proficient in the use of electronic health records and clinical decision-support software.
Compassionate, patient-focused, and able to provide reassurance during stressful situations.
