Summary

In accordance with the requirement of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 99) chapter 14 the Hyperbaric Safety Director shall develop operation and maintenance procedures for the Hyperbaric facility with facility management personnel and the hyperbaric physician. The Hyperbaric Safety Director shall make recommendations for departmental safety policies and procedures. The Hyperbaric Safety Director shall have the authority to restrict or remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from the chamber. The Hyperbaric Safety Director shall participate in the enforcement of the regulations by 14.3.1.3.3. The Hyperbaric Safety Director shall ensure that electrical, monitoring, life support, fire protection, and ventilating arrangements in the hyperbaric chamber are inspected and tested as part of the routine maintenance program of the facility. 14.3.1.5.4. Emergency procedures and fire training drills shall be conducted at least annually and documented by the Hyperbaric Safety Director. Provides leadership and annual required staff competency safety training to hyperbaric personnel. Responsible for training and deeming competency of all hyperbaric nurses and technicians. Responsible for maintaining all facility safety related standards are required by various licensing and regulatory agencies. Works closely with Gulf Coast Hyperbaric to coordinate and approve all modifications and repairs to the hyperbaric chamber. Collaborates with Ambulatory Facility and environmental Services to ensure safety practices for the multiplace chamber. Review all department safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment, patient and staff safety, reports relevant incidents to staff, and provides in-service safety training as needed. Evaluates hyperbaric equipment and supplies used in the chamber and ensures that they meet all safety standards before they are permitted in the chamber. On call rotation; one week on, one week off.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 10 years of experiencerequired.

Experience: Experience in multi-place chamber operations required. Training or experience in hyperbaric chamber maintenance and operations a plus. Working knowledge of safety codes and decompression requirements.

Certification: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required. CHT (Certified Hyperbaric Technologist) certification required or meets qualifications to sit for exam immediately upon hire.

License: N/A

Other: Must pass the fit-for-duty requirement for multi-place chamber dives, as per departmental policy #LWC020. Completion of recognized course in Hyperbaric Medicine (Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, The American College of Hyperbaric Medicine), or similar national specific requirements.
