Position Summary
The Pediatric Cardiovascular Sonographer performs comprehensive echocardiographic exams using all necessary modalities to gather accurate diagnostic information. This role focuses on pediatric transthoracic echocardiography in alignment with department and IAC protocols, including M-mode, 2D imaging, color flow, and Doppler techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
The Pediatric Cardiovascular Sonographer III is a senior expert-level sonographer and leader within the echo lab who is proficient in the goals of Level I and Level II and is skilled in Fetal Echocardiography. This role combines advanced clinical expertise with leadership, education, and quality oversight responsibilities and the individual must possess strong leadership, mentoring and teaching abilities.The Level III sonographer is committed to excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The Level III sonographer is able to perform and oversee the most complex congenital and fetal echocardiographic studies, serves as a subject-matter expert in advanced imaging techniques and protocols, assists with training, onboarding, and competency assessment for the echo team. This role collaborates with the department manager on protocol development and research initiatives, participates in lab accreditation, quality assurance, and performance improvement programs.
The Level III sonographer provides clinical guidance during challenging or emergent cases and represents the echo lab in multidisciplinary meetings and committees.
Education:Associates or Bachelors degree in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, graduate from an accredited cardiovascular technology program or diagnostic medical ultrasound program.
Experience:Minimum of 4 years experience in pediatric echocardiograms and 2 years of fetal echocardiography experience.
Certification:BLS (American Heart Association/Basic Life Support) required. Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Echocardiography (RDCS, PE, FE) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International in Echocardiography (RCS) pediatric, and fetal echocardiography required.
License: N/A
Other:Extensive knowledge of pediatric and fetal cardiac anatomy and physiology. Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and email.
