Summary
The Strategy team plays a critical leadership role in advancing the organization's goals. The Strategic Project Manager, within Strategic Portfolio Management, leads the execution of high-impact projects and programs that drive organizational success. This role turns enterprise strategy into action by coordinating and implementing new projects, services, and processes that align with system priorities.
You will partner with executive leadership, system-wide stakeholders, and service line leaders to drive strategic alignment, translate priority initiatives into execution, and improve project performance across the enterprise. You will manage projects through discovery, planning, oversight, and evaluation, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with key performance indicators and goals.
The Work You'll Lead
Strategic Project Managers are assigned initiatives with executive sponsorship that cross multiple departments or service lines, require governance oversight, and carry significant financial, operational, or reputational impact. Current and recent examples include:
- New Ambulatory Surgery Center development: Lead project governance and executive reporting for a multi-million-dollar investment to expand access and market share. Coordinate facilities, finance, operations, IT, and clinical teams while managing the business plan, timeline, budget, risk, and regulatory and operational readiness.
- Enterprise OR optimization: Improve OR utilization, access, throughput, and financial performance across multiple hospitals. Manage governance committees, coordinate stakeholders across LeanTaaS, Epic, Surgical Services, and Finance, track benefits realization, and build executive dashboards and scorecards.
- Physician practice acquisition and integration: Coordinate due diligence workstreams and manage legal, finance, HR, IT, compliance, and operations activities. Develop integration plans and monitor post-acquisition success metrics.
- SEE2030 strategic initiative implementation: Translate strategy into executable work plans, track milestones and performance indicators, and present progress to governance committees.
- Pediatric service line expansion: Expand pediatric specialty services into a new market. Develop the implementation roadmap, align stakeholders, resolve issues, and track market growth and access metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic projects and programs from discovery through execution and evaluation.
- Establish and run project governance, including steering committees and executive reporting.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including clinical, finance, operations, IT, HR, legal, compliance, and marketing.
- Track KPIs, milestones, and benefits realization, and build dashboards and scorecards for leadership.
- Perform data and financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Prepare confidential reports, correspondence, and executive presentations.
- Navigate and align diverse stakeholders, and resolve issues and barriers.
- Apply consistent project management methodology and best practices across the portfolio.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: Three or more years of project management experience, preferably in healthcare or a similarly complex environment.
Certification: PMP required.
Skills: Strong stakeholder management and executive communication, data and financial analysis, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives at once.
