The System Director of Biomedical Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing the strategy, governance, and integration of all biomedical and clinical technology across Lee Health. This position ensures that organizational objectives are implemented effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with systemwide goals.
The System Director will maintain deep expertise in clinical engineering, capital planning, and third-party service management, while monitoring industry trends, competitive dynamics, and external factors influencing standardization across all regions. The role includes designing and implementing a continuing education and technical training program for Biomedical Engineering staff, ensuring adherence to current standards and best practices for safe and efficient medical equipment management.
This position oversees departmental budgeting, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational needs. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the System Director provides leadership and guidance to the Biomedical Engineering leadership team and collaborates closely with Chief Nursing Executives at each campus to ensure the availability of safe, reliable medical equipment for patients, physicians, and staff.Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Healthcare/Business Administration is required. A masters degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare or medical device setting required, with a proven track record of managing large departments and enterprise-wide technology initiatives.
Certification: Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.
License: N/A
Other: In-depth knowledge of current biomedical engineering principles, healthcare technology, and relevant software like Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). A strong understanding of current regulatory requirements, quality management systems, and risk management processes are critical. Skilled in strategic planning and able to translate clinical and business needs into effective engineering solutions. Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives and clinical staff.
