Director, Professional Coding & Documentation Education
Lee Health Remote (Florida)

Lee Health is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Professional Coding & Documentation Education to lead enterprise efforts focused on coding accuracy, documentation quality, and regulatory compliance across Lee Professional Billing (LPG). This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive professional coding and documentation education strategy that supports providers, strengthens compliance, and optimizes revenue integrity.

The Director will partner closely with Mid Cycle Revenue Operations leadership, Physician Practice Operations, Compliance, and Facility Coding and Billing teams to ensure consistent application of professional coding standards and documentation practices across the organization. This role plays a critical part in improving data quality, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and supporting the ongoing education of providers and clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the professional coding and documentation quality and compliance plan for Lee Professional Billing.
• Lead the Coding and Documentation Education and Denials team, overseeing day-to-day operations, education initiatives, and performance management.
• Partner with Mid Cycle Revenue Operations leadership to plan, organize, and execute coding education strategies aligned with revenue integrity and compliance goals.
• Collaborate with Lee Physician Group (LPG) practice operations leadership and Corporate Compliance to provide education to providers, ancillary staff, and operational teams.
• Ensure consistent and accurate application of CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding guidelines across the organization.
• Work in coordination with facility coding and billing leadership to align physician documentation and coding initiatives across Lee Health.
• Develop and deliver provider and staff education focused on documentation improvement, coding accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor coding quality trends and implement targeted educational programs to improve performance and reduce compliance risk.
• Support organizational initiatives related to data quality, coding compliance, and revenue optimization.

Qualifications

Education

• Associates degree in Health Information Management or related field required.
• Five (5) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
• Bachelors degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of professional services coding and coding education experience required.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience required.
• Experience working with coding data quality initiatives in an inpatient acute care environment preferred.
• Experience with project management, HIM operational leadership, information systems, and database management preferred.

Certifications

• CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor) required
• CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) required
