Summary

Performs a leadership role for ambulatory and out-patient locations throughout Lee Health System. Works directly with ambulatory/outpatient (OP) leadership. Collaborates as a team member when representing Infection Prevention activities and while working with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports and is a role model for the organization vision and mission. As part of the position, the Ambulatory IP will serve as a scientific advisor to apply epidemiology by researching best practices, latest technologies and products, and regulatory requirements for all Lee Healths estimated 150+ ambulatory/OP locations. The employee will be serves as a liaison to provide effective infection prevention-related input for policy and procedure development to ensure practice aligns with policy, assists sites with rule interpretation, and helps them identify solutions to meet these requirements and stay at the forefront of service provisions and disease prevention. He/she will develop and present educational materials designed to change caregiver practices based on surveillance findings and evidence-based protocols. May independently takes off-hours call for Lee Health concerning Epidemiology/Infection Prevention. Provides input into the annual Infection Prevention Plan and assists in developing priorities. Educates staff regarding Infection prevention and serves as a resource for patients and families.

Additional Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with a BSN or alternatively, must have B.S. or M.S. in a health care related field such as Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology/Public Health, etc. At time of hire/promotion, may be considered with current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).

Additional Requirements

Has a minimum of three (3) years previous experience in staff nursing or health care related field. The IP must be knowledgeable in patient care practices. Has the ability to work with persons of varying education and cultural backgrounds. Working experience in ambulatory/out-patient area is highly desirable.

Will attend a recognized training course (CDC/APIC) in Infection Prevention/Hospital Epidemiology or alternatively, a degree in epidemiology, or must have and maintain current Certification in Infection Control (CIC). IP will obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within three (3) years of hire into the position. IP will attend State, Regional or National Infection Prevention conferences as System resources permit. Must obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years of hire into the position.

Other Requirements

Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills, and computer and statistical skills necessary for data analysis. May require travel up to 80% of the work week. Requires flexibility and ability to work on-site as needed during normal operating business hours. IP touch down office spaces are available on a first come first serve basis.
