Physician Advisor

The main role of the Physician Advisor (PA) is to facilitate safe, efficient, appropriate patient flow within the hospital setting and the community, ensuring timely and proper care transitions, limiting readmissions, and guiding the healthcare team in proper compliance with payer regulations and policies.

The PA will work to improve utilization patterns within the Health System as measured by:
2) 30 Day Readmissions
3) Condition Code 44 Cases executed
4) Self Audit / BMO Rate
5) Consultation Rate of Hospitalists
6) Appropriate intrasystem transfers

Organizational Design: Each campus of Lee Memorial Health System will have a PA. All PAs report directly to the System Medical Director of Utilization and Care Management who then reports to the CMO of Clinical and Quality Services. PAs will serve in collaborative relationships with the CAO and Director of Care Management at their respective campuses. The PAs will be responsible for their scheduling and call coverage.


Education: Seven or more years of formal education required
Experience: More than one year up to two years
Other: Experience in utilization management and leadership, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to educate and counsel peers, appropriate knowledge base on medical necessity criteria, flexibility and availability by site, phone or electronic means. Understanding of the current managed care environment, contracts and contracted benefits. The ability to listen, analyze and approach issues in an unbiased way.
License: Candidates must have a M.D. or D.O. degree and be board certified in an approved clinical specialty with post-graduate experience in direct patient care. In order to relate to the wide variety of medical staff members, candidates who have private practice experience in the community are preferred. Also valuable will be candidates who have committed time to continuing management education, either through regular attendance at medical management seminars and conferences or to the pursuit of an advanced management degree.
