Represents the Pharmacy Department in a consultative and active role as the clinically oriented pharmacist responsible for rational antimicrobial medication therapy. The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - Infectious Diseases provides pharmaceutical care to hospital patients in collaboration with ID physicians, other physicians, pharmacists, infection control, nursing and microbiology. Co-chairs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee (in conjunction with ID physician), reviewing and presenting new anti-microbials to the P and T committee, and serving as a resource to staff and other clinical specialists on ID clinical issues. Monitors the usage of antimicrobials and makes suggestions for improvement in therapy when appropriate. Provides clinical and operational oversight for the LMHS antibiotic infusion centers. Pharmacy Clinical Specialists are expected to sustain an environment for the safe, rational, effective, and efficient use of medications prescribed to patients of all age groups and to assist the director / manager / supervisor with the supervision of the pharmacy staff and technicians. All job duties shall be performed in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws, regulatory agency standards, professional practice standards, and policies and procedures of the health system/pharmacy department.
